I never thought I’d be asked to photograph a birth… as it turns out  I have a few already booked for this year, and to be honest, I’m thrilled!  I’ve been on both sides of the fence with the subject… being freaked and weirded out by birth… to absolutely falling in love with how perfectly beautiful it is.  It is by far the most amazing thing in this life. The amount of excitement and joy and love that surrounds welcoming a little person who no one knows yet is so beyond any other experience in life.  I have recently been reading the book How to Train a Dragon by Don Miller, and in the book he describes how a parent loves a child… and I could not agree more with him. He talks about how you don’t know this tiny person, you have no idea what it will look like, maybe even no clue if it will be a boy or a girl… but the moment you see your child, you immediately feel a love that is like no other love. The baby doesn’t earn your love, you don’t grow to love it, you just immediately and uncontrollably love it more than anything else in the world. You would lay your life down to save it, sacrifice anything for it’s sake.

Brianna and Ross welcomed Elliot into the world in the middle of the night. I arrived at nine to find a very upbeat mama, still in the excitement stage. Brianna had planned a home birth, and with the help of three very talented midwives (one of them was her mother, and also my midwife), had a quick and perfect labor.  Her support team was amazing, and everyone knew their queue of when to give Brianna the pep-talks you so desperately need when having a baby naturally.  Here are a few photos from the birth. If you’re interested in getting your birth photographed and would like to see more from this birth, let me know!
